Be outward looking. You may find it hard at first but please persist. Keeping active interests and hobbies enhances the quality of life. Continuing interests push head noises into better perspective so that, in a while, you can still enjoy life to the full. It is never too late to learn but you may need to test out situations to see which relieve or aggravate tinnitus.

Also consider your overall general health and ensure you are getting a good varied diet, plenty of exercise and rest, and some social activity.

Avoid foods and situations that seem to aggravate your tinnitus. Be of good cheer! In time you may find that your head noises recede naturally into the background allowing you to forget about them.

You can aid natural habituation by using strategies found helpful by others of all ages and circumstances. Useful aids are available including under pillow speakers, tapes and CDs of pleasant, undemanding sounds such as the seashore.

SLEEP. You may help sleep quality by avoiding stimulants such as tea or coffee and alcohol in the evening.
A shower with hot water on your neck followed by cool or cold water on you lower back can take blood away from your head. This often helps a lot so try it! And try a few more comforting ideas.

Use relaxing techniques especially when wakeful and listen to an undemanding sound like the Seashore.
Try listening to recorded pleasant voices reading interesting but not exciting stories or travellers tales. They can send you to sleep too — but they do divert you attention away from your sounds and help retrain your hearing systen not to hear head noises.
Don't just listen to relaxation advice — do it — even if you do feel embarrassed.

STOP REVOLVING AND LET YOUR SOUL CATCH UP! For example, sit down and watch 'River and Sea" (see DVD River & Sea). For goodness sake don't dwell on your misfortune(s)!

Don't dreadfulise or dramatise and don't trivialise. Apply commonsense and you'll be just fine in time.
